TROMPER

Diviners, 2012: video 5m 12s

Meaning to deceive, be unfaithful, disappoint, or elude, the French word “tromper” refers to the capitalistic ideologies that influence our behaviours and perceptions through visual culture. My work challenges and considers the visual, ritualistic, and activity-based structures and systems of organizations that impact and reinforce capitalist models such as team sports, forms of entertainment, religion, and education. I use my pieces to humourously, ridiculously, and physically engage the participant.

Tromper seeks to break down representations of underlying neoliberal ideologies and play with them -- a sort of iconoclastic behaviour that is trying to initiate change by disassociating power, money from our grooming within our consumption-based capitalistic culture.
